Hurricane Mandatory Evacuation

If an emergency evacuation is ordered and you need a ride, the Glynn County Emergency Management Agency can help. You must first complete a form available on their website. If you don’t have internet access, call the agency at 554-7880 to get a copy of the form. You will be transported to a designated Red Cross shelter.

Only one piece of luggage is allowed. No alcohol, drugs (other than prescription) or weapons will be allowed on the busses. Pets will be allowed on the buses, but must meet the following requirements: they must be in a carrier or kennel; you must provide shot records, food, water, collar, and a leash; and you are responsible for maintenance and well-being of their pet.

It will be announced on radio and TV of the date and time to report to a designated pick-up site. You MUST get to the pick-up site on your own. Pick-up sites are: Lanier Plaza (Pet Pick-Up), Mary Ross Park, Colonial Mall, United Pentecostal Church, Harris Teeter (St. Simons Island), and Bay Harbour Church of God.

To get local information during disasters such as hurricanes, tune to FM Radio 104.9, Glynn County’s Emergency Advisory Radio System.

Legal Matters

It is important to make plans for the future to ensure that your financial and healthcare wishes are carried out. The Georgia Division of Aging Services offers information about advance directives including the Georgia Advance Directive for Healthcare. If you are a senior citizen or have limited income, you may qualify for assistance from the Georgia Legal Services Program. The Brunswick office is located at 777 Gloucester Street. Telephone: (912) 264-7301.

Veteran Aid Benefit

As a wartime veteran you may be eligible for Long Term Care Benefits from the Veterans Administration to pay for Home Care, Assisted Living or Nursing Home Care. You may qualify for benefits even if you or your spouse are presently receiving Home Care, Assisted Living or Nursing Care. If you are bedridden, as a veteran, spouse or widow, you could qualify for monthly care payments. For more information, contact the Veteran Support Center.
